More Than A Pipe Cleaner: Plumber
Training
Are you mechanically inclined? Do you
love working with your hands? Do you like getting down and
dirty? Do you like making more then $44,000 a year, starting?
Then maybe you should be a plumber!
Do You Have What It Takes?
Being a plumber is more than being a glorified clog
remover. A plumber is a person with exceptional skill.
Plumbing is a skilled career that requires certified plumber
training and licensing. You can't just wake up one morning and
decide that you’re going to go around fixing people’s pipes.
You have to do your homework, literally.
Going Back To School
All plumber training schools are certified to train
apprentice plumbers for the skilled trade. Most plumber
training schools have met the standards established by the
Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training (BAT). Plumber training
programs feature courses in mechanics, chemistry, and
electricity. Not only those essential courses but also courses
in heating, ventilation, pipefitting, and welding.
Plumber training schools also offer courses in pre-technical
skills training in math, measurements, and safety, which allow
students to learn the basics so they can get started. With the
certified training also comes the knowledge of the current NSP
codes (National Standard Plumbing).
Once a student has completed his/her plumber training they
will be able to:
-Explain the ways to join and assemble different varieties
of pipe joints.
-Communicate procedures for laying out, supporting, and testing
piping systems.
-Describe fundamental maintenance for pumps, tanks, and
plumbing fixtures.
-Explain the correct techniques for arc and gas cutting and
welding.
-Discuss the basics of refrigeration and be able to identify
refrigeration materials
and tools.
-Recognize and describe the pieces of different kinds of
refrigeration, heating, and air conditioning systems.
Getting Started In The Plumbing Game
Once you have spent the appropriate amount of time and money
on plumber training you can go out and either get a job as an
apprentice plumber, or start your own business.
As wonderful as being your own boss can be, it isn’t
recommended that you go out on your own so soon after being
thrown from the nest. Training under a Master plumber can be
the best career move of your life.
A Master plumber is a plumber that has spent years training
himself for his trade. He has years and years and years of
plumbing experience. He is a virtual treasure trove of
plumbing knowledge and experience. Training under one
would not only give you an impressive entry on your resume, but
it will also give you a serious head start in your plumbing
career.
